Diagnosis and Application

Pedodontics (Pediatric Dentistry) is a department that aims to protect the milk and permanent teeth of children between the ages of 0-13, and to eliminate the problems caused by caries, trauma, hereditary and similar factors in these teeth.

Many people do not care about them, thinking that milk teeth will change. However, 20 milk teeth continue to perform some tasks.

The first task of milk teeth; is to prepare the food for digestion. Milk teeth maintain the necessary place for permanent teeth that will come after them and guide them while permanent teeth are on. Especially, it protects the underlying dental tension against external factors such as trauma frequently seen in children. However, the effect of milk teeth on phoning is also great. Proper development of speech depends on the health of milk teeth.

In addition, milk teeth have an aesthetic function. Since the child at 6-7 years of age sees anterior tooth loss in his friends, he meets normally, but early tooth loss can cause psychological traumas.

The first dentist examination is a step in the child’s life. When the child turns 1, he should be introduced to the pedodontist. In this way, both the child’s white coat phobia does not occur and the parents can be given useful information about the child’s mouth, dental health and nutrition.

Although it varies from child to child, some symptoms may appear 1-2 months before the tooth is applied. These are characterized by drooling, trying to bite everything the child finds, pain, fever, edema, anorexia, weakness.

Bebeğe çiğneyebileceği soğuk yiyecekler verilebilir. Soğuk yiyecek ve içecekler oda The baby can be given cold food that he can chew. Cold foods and beverages will attract the baby’s attention more than those at room temperature. Teether can be given to the baby. If these are not enough, you can use a suitable medicine in consultation with your doctor.ısısındakilere oranla, bebeğin daha çok ilgisini çekecektir. Bebeğe diş kaşıyıcıları verilebilir. Bunlar yeterli gelmiyorsa da doktorunuza danışarak uygun bir ilaç kullanabilirsiniz.

Breast milk and formula naturally contain sugar. In this period, sugar and honey are added to milk or formula with the idea that the baby will be fed better since the growth and development of the baby is more important for the family. If this feeding is given to the baby between sleep and at night before going to bed, milk or food will stay in contact with the teeth for a long time and cause caries due to the sugar in its content. Particular attention should be paid to cleaning the baby’s mouth before sleep. It is also important to drink water after feeding.

To Prevent Baby Bottle Caries:

Do not make your baby sleep by breastfeeding.
After cleaning your teeth with a wet cloth, put them to sleep.
Never put your baby to sleep with a bottle filled with sugar and milk mixture.
Do not force your baby to finish the food in the bottle. This approach can cause the child to vomit.
If there is a bottle feeding, do not put the bottle in your mouth for checking the temperature.
Fruit juices, which are very useful for children, can be filled with a bottle and cause dental caries.
When the child is 1 year old, abandon breastfeeding and bottle use and get used to drinking liquid food with glasses.
Only clean your child’s teeth with a toothbrush. Help him with oral care until all of the milk teeth (2,5-3 years old).

Help him when brushing his teeth. Teeth should be brushed after breakfast and before going to bed at least twice a day under the supervision of an adult. Introduce your child to the dentist at an early age. Take protective measures to prevent caries. Be careful when using a bottle against bottle caries.

Make sure your child gets enough fluoride. According to your dentist’s suggestion, take advantage of fluorine-containing tablets, fluorine-containing pastes and mouthwashes, and fluorine applications to be made by the dentist. Since excessive use of fluorine is also harmful, you should definitely consult your dentist in this regard. Also, make sure that the child’s meals are regular, as the junk food they receive in the snacks causes the formation of caries with their sugar and starch content.

Generally, children under the age of 5 are harmless to the finger sucking habits. However, after the age of 6, the first permanent teeth begin to be rubbed and if your finger sucking habit continues, it will cause problems in your child’s jaw development. Since the jaw bone is very soft in this period, the upper anterior teeth are pushed forward while the upper pressure is pushed forward with the pressure exerted by the finger during thumb sucking. It also creates excessive doming in the upper palate. Work to prevent finger-sucking habits should start as early as possible. If your child still cannot give up this habit after 5 years of age, you can benefit from an award penalty system in the first place. But if the problem still cannot be solved, you should consult a dentist. You can solve this bad habit by making your child use the appliance that your dentist will prepare.

Although children regularly perform oral and dental care every day, they may not be able to fully reach the recesses on the teeth. While food residues are holding in these narrow areas, suitable environments are formed for the reproduction of bacteria and face the dental caries threat. Fissure sealants reach deep into these recesses, providing an effective occlusion and the teeth are protected against caries.

How Is Fissure Sealant Applied?

It is a fast and comfortable application since no abrading is done on the teeth or done at minimum level. It is painless and is completed in just one session.

How long does the fissure sealant remain in the mouth?

Fissure sealants are wearing materials over time. Hard foods and grinding teeth can cause this practice to break or fall. When regular checks are carried out, these will be detected in a timely manner and necessary practices will be carried out. We would like to point out that fissure sealants are only a protective application. If your child does not care about oral care, no method can prevent caries.

In the early loss of milk teeth, placeholders are used in order to maintain the necessary gap in order for the permanent tooth from below to continue properly, and to prevent neighboring teeth from moving into the gravity cavity. Thus, possible confusion is prevented. It has two types as fixed and mobile. Fixed placeholders are used for single tooth loss and are fixed. Movable placeholders are used in multiple tooth deficiencies and can be installed and removed.

Children often crash or fall. As a result, they may encounter problems that they will be uncomfortable with throughout their lives. Especially children who play sports such as boxing, football, basketball, skiing and cycling are at risk. In these children, with the help of a silicone transparent mouthpiece that is worn on the upper jaw teeth, tongue lip bite and tearing are prevented, and this plate (mouthguard) acts as a pillow and protects the teeth.

The result of the coup;

If the anterior tooth is thrown out completely: Immediately put the tooth in a little milk. If this is not possible, keep it in saliva in the mouth and contact your dentist as soon as possible. Never dry the tooth. The ideal is to start treatment within 30 minutes. If the conditions are suitable, your dentist will place the tooth in its place and perform the necessary treatment.
If one or more of your front teeth are broken: try to find the parts and contact your dentist as quickly as possible. It is important to keep the parts moist. It is ideal to keep the serum in physiological, milk and even saliva. These parts can be adhered to their place with very strong adhesives.
If you cannot find the pieces, if the broken piece is small, a white fill can be made in the same color as the tooth. If the fracture is large, on average over 17 years old laminate veneers or crowns may be considered. However, such applications will not be suitable, since jaw and tooth development is not completed in younger children. The fracture site is temporarily restored until the child grows up and is expected to complete growth.
If there are no problems after the impact: The dentist should definitely be checked in detail and x-rays should be taken. Even if you do not have any complaints, it should be kept under control against any complications, and X-rays should be taken at regular intervals and compared with the previous ones.
